Module 1: Getting Started

Key Concepts

Audience - people who are, or who you hope will be, interested in your evaluation findings.

Evaluation - A systematic study of the impact of your program.

Evaluation questions - set of broad questions being asked by program staff and other stakeholders, as well as external audiences the program wishes to influence, that the evaluation seeks to answer. Also referred to as the purpose of the evaluation.

M&E Team - the people you will work most closely with to develop, carry out and present the entire monitoring and evaluation process.

Monitoring - An on-going systematic review of the implementation of your project.

Primary audience - the people who will make the most important decisions about the program based on the evaluation findings. For example, modifying or expanding the program, or continuing or ending funding.

Stakeholders - people who are in some way affected by your program, and have a stake or a vested interest in your program’s impact. For example, program staff and participants. Everyone who is on your M&E team is a stakeholder.
